I used to think that people who lived in single-wide trailers were poor, but when I stayed with the CFR's at Our Lady of the Angels Firary in the South Bronx, I was shocked to find a new kind of poverty. The friary was located next to the projects and I remember sitting on the fire escape looking out over the trash ridden dirty streets and up at the government housing and wondering how people could live like that. And to think that our nation is one of the wealthiest in the world. It is disturbing and saddenning. I returned home from that trip with a new appreciation for everything God has given me.
That's a great photograph. Couldn't help noticing an air conditioning unit on one of the "boxes". I guess you'd need it or life would be even worse.
